Marylanders and marijuana may soon live in peaceful harmony.

As the federal government adjusts its stance on the drug and as states become more lenient to those who smoke it, Maryland is hopping on the decriminalization bandwagon.

The state legislature is considering a bill that would result in no threat of jail time and a fine of $100 if you are found with a quarter or less of pot.

Currently, those arrested for having a small amount of weed face up to a year in jail and a $1,000-fine, unless, thanks to a law signed by former Republican governor Bob Ehrlich, they can prove they have it for medical purposes.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the bill. Perhaps it should be passed just for the fact that it could put Maryland on the map, a state known for crabs, the Chesapeake Bay and mediocre sports teams.
